Zhiqiao, wedding photographer and filmmaker
Zhiqiao · Photographer & filmmaker

I’m Zhiqiao, a wedding photographer and filmmaker based in the United Kingdom. I came to photography with an engineering education, an interest in art and a habit of noticing small things. By September 2026, I had photographed more than 150 weddings, each teaching me something about how people mark the moments that matter.

Engineering gave me an appreciation of structure: how light falls across a room, how a frame holds together, how a small change can alter the whole. My interest in art opened another way of looking, with space for ambiguity, instinct and the unexpected.

Travelling through more than 20 countries broadened that way of seeing. Different streets, buildings and daily rituals made me more attentive to the relationship between people and place. I began to notice how much a gesture can say, even when the language around it is unfamiliar.

In the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Saul Leiter and Vivian Maier, I found an affinity with patient observation: a glance at the edge of a frame, a fleeting expression, the quiet geometry of ordinary life. Those influences stay with me at weddings, where something meaningful is often unfolding just outside the obvious scene.

01 / My visual language

Natural colour.
A cinematic finish.

Colour is part of how I remember a place: the warmth of a room, the last light through a window, the tones of a face. My editing begins with professional colour correction, balancing exposure, white balance and skin tones across changing light. Cinematic grading then brings the photographs and 4K films into a coherent visual story.

Experience has made me cautious of imposing a single look on every wedding. I let the setting, the light and the people guide the finish. We can talk through references beforehand; the colours should feel at home in the day they describe.

I also have a soft spot for film-inspired colour, drawing on Kodak Vision3 250D (5207), Vision3 500T (5219) and Portra 400. If you love that look too, all the better — we can bring a little of that character into your collection.

02 / Working with me

What it’s like
to work with me.

Couples often describe me as easygoing, cheerful and reassuring. I like the conversation before a portrait, the moment shoulders relax, the laugh that arrives between instructions. I give direction when it helps and make space when a moment is unfolding on its own.

I stay involved from the first conversation to the final photographs and film, including colour grading and editing. When you choose a two-photographer package, we work together on the photographs and film, with coverage and deliverables agreed beforehand. Wedding-day hair and makeup services are also available and quoted separately.

Experience has taught me that time is often best used by anticipating a moment rather than interrupting it. I work efficiently between the key events, staying alert to the small gestures around them, so you have room to enjoy the day. A glance from a parent or a conversation across the room may pass unnoticed in the moment. When couples discover those details in their photographs and film, the collection becomes a record of things they remember and things they are seeing for the first time.

03 / Notes from weddings

What weddings have taught me.

01

The moments in between.

I watch what happens around the ceremony as closely as the ceremony itself: shoulders relaxing after the vows, a hand reaching for another, guests finding one another again. These small transitions can reveal the ease and affection that give a story its depth.

02

Time to feel at ease.

An unhurried few minutes can do a great deal for a portrait. Clear preparation and well-timed direction help me use our time carefully, leaving more of the day for the people you came to celebrate with.

03

What grows more precious.

The photographs of parents, grandparents and friends can take on new meaning with time. That thought shapes what I pay attention to: familiar gestures, shared laughter and the relationships that give a celebration its meaning.
